Mixing it up with Scitech
Yesterday, we held our first school holiday incursion with Scitech and the kids loved it! (Along with the parents and carers, let’s be honest). We had two great presenters introduce our kids to the wonders of chemical science, mixing and making lava lamps, puffy paint and mega bubble baths. It was everything we hoped it would be - messy, engaging and full of fun.
School holidays can sometimes be a tricky time for our families. Our kids are out of their routines and Mums and Dads are often left scrambling, trying to find something fun to do that’s not going to blow the budget. And something the whole family can do together.
In Scitech speak, what our families need is that special combination of elements that creates the perfect compound (see, I learnt something from the incursion, too!)
I reckon if we wrote out the equation for the All Stars school holiday compound, with all it’s different elements, it would look something like this:
Autistic kids + siblings + parents (or carers) x (fun + support) – high cost = HAPPINESS.
And yesterday was a day where happiness ruled, for everyone. Mums and Dads could sit and relax, watch their kids learn, socialise and play in a supported environment. Or talk to other adults and get a quick fix of grown-up banter, knowing their kids were in an environment of love and acceptance – with beautiful support staff on hand to help out.
We love bringing opportunities to our kids and families. And we’re proud to say that we made sure the cost of bringing Scitech to us, was comparable to taking kids Scitech. But with all the benefits of avoiding the crowds, the noise, the drive, lining up and many of the obstacles that prevent our families from going in the first place.
We’ll definitely be re-booking another Scitech incursion in the Summer holidays. It was one of our highlights this year – come join us next time for more making, experimenting, learning and family fun.
